It was reported that Taiwan usually imported about 20,000 tons of stainless steel hot-rolled coils from Indonesia every month but it surged by triple to around 60,000 tons in July.
According to Taiwanese customs import data, Taiwanese stainless steel hot-rolled coil imports from Indonesia were around 57,000 tons in July. In May and June, the import volume was about 23,200 tons and around 21,600 tons respectively. While in March and April, the import volume was around 12,700 tons and 11,600 tons respectively.
Meanwhile, Taiwanese stainless steel hot-rolled coil imports from China were about 23,000 tons in July, dropped dramatically compared with 60,200 tons roughly in June. Consequently, it showed that most of stainless steel hot-rolled coil from China has been replaced by Indonesia.
In response to the situation, Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. (Tisco) have requested government to investigate anti-dumping against Japanese and Indonesia for stainless steel billet, stainless steel hot-rolled coil and heavy plates. In order to keep stainless steel price, Tisco had to reduce the production under the situation of power restriction and environment protection.
It was known that Indonesian President was actively expanding exports but restricting imports of capital and consumer goods. Therefore, stainless steel hot-rolled coil was also a production of Indonesian expanded exports besides coal mine.
